I AM SELF-EMPLOYED/ INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR / AUTONOMOUS/ 1099 DIGITAL NOMAD VISA, HOW I WILL BE REGISTERED?

One of the most frequent questions that digital nomad applicants ask us at Marfour International Law Firm is how they would be registered as a self-employed/ autónomo in Spain and how much would be their social security contribution.

In this article we will take you through the process of registration for self-employed digital nomad visa holders in Spain.

First, it should be noted that we are only talking about the social security contributions and not the tax obligations related to a digital nomad visa holder´s annual profit.

As a digital nomad visa holder and self-employed individual in Spain, you are required to register as self-employed with the Spanish Treasury and Social Security. This registration ensures that you fulfill one of the obligations associated with holding a Spanish digital nomad visa or residency, which includes paying social security in Spain as mandated by the UGE (Unidad de Gestión de Extranjería, or Immigration Management Unit). This is a necessary step after obtaining your visa or residency.

The registration can only be done online with your digital certificate that our immigration lawyers in Spain or our Spanish accountants will provide you.

The applicant has two options to establish their monthly social contributions: either select the social contribution according to their annual income base or choose the flat rate for the first 12 months of 80 euros, with the possibility of extension as long as they meet certain requirements that they have to verify with their accountant from Marfour International Law Firm.

After the expiration of the term of their membership they will be charged at the following rates you can find at the article: IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR SELF-EMPLOYED VISA HOLDERS AND DIGITAL NOMAD AUTONMOUS HOLDER in Spain.
